The place-name
Kamara or Kamares derives from the caves that
existed on the rocky south coast of the bay.
Kamares is the largest coastal
village and the port of Sifnos since the end of the
previous century. The
central settlement expands on the right side of the
bay of Kamares.
Here you
shall find the port’s
dock,
travel agencies,
stores,
general stores,
restaurants,
patisserie workshops,
pottery workshops,
rooms to let,
car and motorcycle rental
offices,
press agencies,
a kiosk and on the west
border of the settlement, you shall find the
mansions of the wealthy residents of Sifnos.
